Hello!

I'm Gabrielle Hewson. In addition to being a wallpaper & fabric designer and interior decorator, I am an artist, illustrator, and hand letterer calling Colorado home. I'm deeply inspired by the beauty of nature in all its vibrant, forms—plants, wildlife, and everything in between. I love crafting bold, joyful visuals for wallpapers, fabrics, wall calendars, coloring books, and more; capturing the magic I see around me every day.

Illustrations

Every piece of art I design starts with a sketch of the core art — my primary inspiration — and develops organically into an illustration that can often serve as both a stand-alone art piece and a pattern element.

Watercolors

I create watercolors using a combination of gouache, watercolor paints, and watercolor pencil. I also create watercolors by adapting what I know as a painter & illustrator working directly in Procreate.

Vectors

I have had a lot of fun playing with organic & structured vectors, starting with rough sketches, then finalizing elements for sizing & color blocks before converting to vectors to enable unlimited scaling and a variety of colorways.

Hand Lettering

I create both structured & free-form lettering for products like my calendars, coloring book, and greeting & note card sets.

Processes

I combine traditional and digital mediums to create designs with variation and organic feel. My colors are bold and bright, making products and pages with my artwork pop!

I usually start with rough sketches of elements that pique my interest before I start to really flesh out an illustration or a pattern.
From there, I do 1-3 preliminary ink drawings before color is even considered. Color fills in form and texture gives each element depth.
Sometimes I'm not sure how I want to represent my vision, so I play with simple ink, just color blocks, and full-color/texture options.
Deciding elements for an upcoming children's book.
Some illustrations take on a very loose form of elements. This bunny has appeared in one form or another in a few of my projects.
One of my favorite base inkings created for a dear friend as part of my Faery Realm Collection.
The inking was then literally fleshed out as gentle watercolor and shading were added.
This is a great representation of how I will create on the fly. Given select colors and a theme, I made a rough drawing with color blocks.
One of my biggest wins as a surface pattern designer was getting the inspiration and colors above, with opacities to match what was in my head for my upcoming 2025 Coastal Vibes collection.
