Surface & Space
Welcome to my blog, Surface & Space — a place where texture, pattern, and color come alive, and conventional design rules are gently questioned. Here, I share my approach to the art and craft of walls, fabrics, and interiors, guided by bold choices, meticulous detail, and timeless beauty.
From uncovering the secrets behind thoughtful wallpaper installations to inspiring creative uses for reupholstered furniture, Surface & Space explores the intersection of pattern design and interior decorating. Whether you’re an established design professional, an emerging designer unafraid of color, or someone simply curious about how rooms come together, this is where your ideas gain depth, your projects gain confidence, and your interiors reach their fullest potential.
“Sometimes when I’m working with those using the space, they naturally gravitate toward what feels familiar—things they’ve already seen. As a designer, I can find myself slipping into that lane too, trying to honor their comfort zone, and I think less outside the box as a result.
Blogs like Surface & Space remind me to step outside that box—to revisit bolder ideas and colors. For example, the wallpaper-on-the-ceiling and pattern-focused articles opened my eyes to new ways of looking at spaces, reactivated the creative in me, and inspired me to gently challenge those using the space. The blog’s articles also give me language I can use when I’m talking through those ideas with them.
Grateful for blogs like this.”
All blog posts from Surface & Space are meant to be informative in a way that empowers you to make the best decisions possible—whether you’re working on a personal project or guiding those you design and decorate for through a specific approach, best practice, or innovative process for their residential or commercial spaces.
