A New Book for Smoother Interiors Projects

I am pleased to share that my new book, Trust the Design Process: How Interiors Professionals and Their Clients Work Best Together, will be available for pre-sale in two weeks.

This book has been written for clients, homeowners, business owners, and anyone considering working with an interiors professional who wants to better understand how an interiors project actually moves from first conversation to finished room.

It is also written for interiors professionals who want a clear, thoughtful resource they can share with clients at the beginning of a project—something that helps explain not only what happens during the design process, but why the sequence matters, why decisions build on one another, and why collaboration works best when everyone understands their role.

Interiors projects are full of visible decisions: color, pattern, materials, furnishings, finishes, lighting, walls, windows, scale, placement, and all the many details that shape how a room looks and feels. But beneath those visible decisions is a process. That process has stages. It has order. It has reasons. It asks for attention, communication, patience, clarity, and timely participation.

When clients understand the design process, the work becomes steadier.

Trust the Design Process was written to help clients better understand how to move with the process instead of against it. It explains why discovery matters, why direction must come before details, why sampling is not indecision, why approvals and sign-offs carry real weight, and why late changes can create more disruption than clients often realize.

At its core, this book is about better collaboration.

It is about helping clients understand that a successful interiors project is not built through scattered preferences, rushed decisions, or constant reversal. It is built through a thoughtful sequence of conversations, choices, refinements, approvals, coordination, installation, and final layering.

The book walks through the key stages of an interiors project, including discovery, direction, planning, materials selection, sampling, refinement, approval and sign-off, procurement, trade and workroom coordination, installation, punch list, and final layering.

Each stage plays a role. Each stage protects the next.

That is one of the central ideas of the book: the process is the structure that allows good work to happen.

For clients, I hope this book offers a calmer, clearer way to enter an interiors project. For professionals, I hope it becomes a useful tool for setting expectations, explaining the rhythm of the work, and supporting more productive conversations with the people you serve.
